Here's the recipe for our family's favorite dessert. I've been making it a bit lately giving me a taste of home. It doesn't turn out as well as when my mom makes it, but nothing ever does.
Ice Cream Junk
1 and 1/2 cups quick oats
1 cup sliced almonds
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 stick margarine
1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream
Chocolate syrup
Toast oats at 350 degrees for 5 minutes. Add almonds and toast another 5 minutes. Cool. Mix together brown sugar and margarine. Combine this with most of the oats and almonds. Reserve some of the oats and nuts for the top of the desert. Place the combined sugar, margarin, oats and nuts into a 9x13 pan and press in place. I place this in the freezer for about 15 min. which makes spreading the ice cream easier. Top with ice cream which has bee softened. Drizzle with chocolate syrup. Sprinkle with reserved oats and nuts. Refrigerate for a few hours before serving.
