This morning on tv they had a bit about Princess Kate Middleton and her wardrobe. The great part was I was watching this while I rifled through my 5 shirts and 3 pairs of pants that are suitable for work.
Did you know that Kate has been seen wearing the same article of clothing more than once???!?!!?! Sometimes she'll wear the same dress to occasions only several months apart! I know! Sometimes she'll pair it with a kicky beret and other times a fascinator just so she doesn't look entirely ridiculous. They did also temper the story with the footnote that she grew up a commoner in a middle class family so obviously she should be forgiven.
Nevermind the debatable idea that the Royal Wardrobe is not newsworthy, just who do they take their audience for? Is re-wearing clothes really such a big deal? Am I the freak for doing so? Why am I asking rhetorical questions?
Seriously, stuff like that really chaps my hide. In a world where so many people are homeless, have trouble putting food on the table or shoes on their kids feet, how is one expected to give a flip what someone wears two or three times? It is insane to think that anyone, even the future queen of England, should trollop off to the store and buy a new outfit for every day of one's life. The story spoke to me in a semi-deep way about the disconnect between the upper-class and the real world and its inhabitants. There is injustice all around us. One need only open one's eyes to see.
