The other day I went out to get a timer. Just a plain kitchen timer. I actually use it all the time. I'm posting this dull bit of info because I feel like pimping this website I've been using for going on two years now. It's flylady.net. Yes, it's cheesy and hokey and way too cutsey in a painted denim jacket sort of way. But if you look past that (and I really do), it's very helpful and useful. The jist of it is a system of cleaning your house, keeping it clean, and taking care of yourself. I've kind of halfway done it for the time I've been on it. But what really got me was the timer. One of her mantras, if you will, is you can do anything for 15 minutes.
So I finally got me my timer and it's such a big help. Our water heater only heats enough water for a very practical shower, none of that fancy "relaxing" or "creme rinses" or "shaving". No siree. So I use my timer to help me get in and out quick and then I don't run out of hot water and amazingly enough I get to work on time. I'm also amazed at how much one can get done in 5, 10, or 15 minutes. I can sort and put away huge piles of paper in 10 minutes. I can vacuum my whole apartment in 5. I can make the bed and tidy up the bedroom in 2 minutes.
Anyway, I highly recommend this website if you need a bit of help. My home is much neater and happier because of it. Even my husband who used to live in typical guy filth won't let things get too out of hand.
