He IS Iron Man!

Okay. Before I start this post I want to assure you you're reading G's blog, not some nerd's with glasses and no life. Wait, that's me, too. But, I'm not a comic book nerd/fanboy. That said...

I loved Iron Man!

We went to a 9:30 showing this morning before the husband headed off to work. I was probably more excited about seeing it than he was. Why, might you ask? One word. Downey. Or, in several words: Robert Downey Jr. is flippin' amazing. I don't care what piece of crap movie they throw him in.

I sat in the theater with a huge grin on my face, my eyes wide, my fists a pumpin. And I swear it's not because he has huge brown eyes, which I love, that rival even Blah's. It's because it's that good. And, not only that, I absolutely loved the message. Without giving anything away, here's the gist of his character. He's a spoiled, obscenely rich playboy who does nothing but run a hugely profitable weapons company and bed whoever will have him. Then, while in Afghanistan, he is kidnapped and sees what his weapons do. He has a complete change of heart and builds his iron suit to right the many wrongs he's done, namely to destroy the weapons his company has built.

The message? War profiteering is a really bad thing. Bigger bombs don't really make the world safer. There are more important things in the world than sitting in your Malibu mansion overlooking the Pacific drinking your 300 year-old Scotch. Fabulous message. Very important and timely message. I hope all the fanboys and anyone else who goes to see this take that away with them. I hope they see and remember that in between all the "cool" special effects and "nifty"flying scenes.

I must say it's been a LONG time since I've seen a Bob movie. Been even longer since I've seen one in the theater. It was a fabulous treat. I've been a huge fan ever since Chaplin back in '92. He's had some rough times, but it looks like he's doing well. I pray he is. For my money, he's the best actor of his generation.

And so I highly recommend this flick. I can honestly say I truly enjoyed the entire thing with one exception. I didn't care for the big finale. It was a bit too much CGI. And I know it's just the way it's done, but the big bad villains are always so generic. But we're talking about 10 minutes of the movie. The rest was pure magic. Oh, and if you like Audi, you'll enjoy this flick. Lotsa Audi product placement. But, what are ya gonna do.
