Well, we "hunkered down" for Ike. That's what the mayor and county judge and just about any other official and reporter said we needed to do if we weren't in a mandatory evacuation area. So we all hunkered down. Me, Blah, and two cats shared about 6 square feet of prime litter box adjacent real estate beautifully furnished with commode and folded bath towel sized beds. We got to take turns "laying down" on either the toilet or the floor. Here is Scout "roughing it".
We had some real excitement after the power had been out for a while. I'd heard all the radio reports about exploding transformers and fires. The smoke alarm went off and as I look toward the door I see a lovely orange glow coming around the door. I opened the door to fight the fire and Buster ran out. Blah scrambled to find him and when he did, Buster was not happy. I threw a blanket over my feral cat and we got him back in the bathroom.
There was no damage to anything when we came out in the morning. A tree nearly fell on Blah's car, but didn't. His car is on the bottom of the picture.
Here's probably one reason we don't have power.
Here's pretty much what our whole neighborhood looks like.
We still don't have power. We've been hunkerin' down at the in-laws where they do have power. My office is gone pretty much. I get to try and find it tomorrow. I'll write more when I have time. Right now I'm just ready to get back to normal.
