Huh...

Well, folks.  I finally saw it.  I just got done watching Once.  Earlier this year Blah splashed out and got us a DVD player with a filter so I can watch all my favorite movies again.  Seems just about every one of my favorite movies were rated R for a five-second snippit of language or what have you.  So again I have Guffman, Office Space, and for the first time ever, Once.

I'm not sure if the player is on its way out already or if it's just really sensitive to scratches, but my copy of Once is scratched and the player doesn't like it.  It plays the movie just fine until the scene where they're taking a break from recording and they wander off to a piano and she plays for him and right after she breaks down it won't play the movie!!!  I tried a couple of times.  By now the whole moment is completely ruined for me.  I throw caution to the wind and put it in our normal player which plays it just fine.

For those who may not be familiar with the film, it's an extremely low budget sort of musical (don't think typical Hollywood cheese-fest) starring the lead singer from The Frames.  He plays a musician who meets a Czech girl who sells flowers and they make awesome music and I won't spoil anything else.  It's a terribly raw film, shot in the streets of Dublin and made for almost nothing.  It's absolutely one of the most natural and real films I've ever seen.  I love that about it.  It's definitely a "sensitive" film, in that if you're into a lot of explosions, you probably won't dig this movie so please skip it.  If you're the type who's not ashamed to admit you bawled your eyes out at the delivery scene as I did, then it's your kind of movie.
