My New Hero

I just have to share a few more words about George Westinghouse.  I have to say I really admire the guy.  He owned huge companies back during a time when men who did so weren't known for their scruples.  I guess it's much like today.  He was one of the first to give his workers a half holiday on Saturdays.  Other tycoons put their workers up in cheap row housing.  Westinghouse sold or rented them great homes with electricity, indoor plumbing, and even yards.  He allowed his engineers and other workers to keep their names on patents for things they invented, unlike Edison.  Progress was more important to him than monetary profit.  He met his wife on a train where he gave her the names of three friends and family members she could write to for references as to his character.  How cool is that.  And eventually after they were married they lived in an estate called "Solitude" with magnificent gardens.  I can think of no better-sounding place to live out my years.
